Thomas Tuchel Criticizes Wembley Fan Atmosphere Despite Dominant Win Over Wales.
Thomas Tuchel voiced his regret that the Three Lions team did not get more encouragement from the home spectators during their decisive 3-0 friendly victory on Thursday evening.
The manager was pleased to see his team continue their winning momentum, with finishes from Rogers, Watkins, and Bukayo Saka inside the opening quarter deciding the match. Yet, he was not content with the mood at the national stadium.
“With limited training days to prepare against a drilled team and we performed excellently,” the coach commented. “It could have been five goals ahead at the break. We couldn’t score the additional goals. It was quiet. There was no any energy back from the stands. We did everything to win.”
“What more can you give in 20 minutes? We didn’t let them escape. If you hear just Wales fans for half an hour, it’s disappointing because the team warranted better encouragement today.”
“I support this statement. There’s nothing more than being 3-0 in a derby. I would have wished for a bit more backing in periods where it becomes tough.”
“In the second half, to get behind us, there was a bit too much backing for the opposition. It might have aided us to recharge, but that’s the way it went and that is it.”
Selection Choices Vindicated by Display
Apart from risking a dispute among supporters, the manager also raised eyebrows by omitting Bellingham and Foden from his team selection. However the decision was validated by Morgan Rogers excelling in the No 10 position and netting his maiden goal for his country.
“He is what he is,” the head coach said. “He operates as an attacking midfielder and he is fighting for his place.”
Bellamy Hopes for Improvement from Defeat
The Wales manager hopes that Wales, who face a strong Belgian side in a crucial qualifying match on next week, learn from their poor performance in the opening period.
“That’s the reason I wanted this match,” the manager stated. “I need to see our current level. What are our ambitions? What is our identity? This performance gives me motivation.”
Fitness Worry for Striker
Watkins was withdrawn at the break after colliding with a goalpost and is a concern when England play Latvia in Riga in a World Cup qualifying match on next week.
